UWSC Celebrates 30th Annual 5K Bridge Run

United Way of St. Charles (UWSC) hosted its 30th annual 5K Bridge Run on March 28, bringing together nearly 1300 participants and community members for a milestone event celebrating health, unity and local impact.

The race began at Harry M. Hurst Middle School in Destrehan, with participants crossing the Hale Boggs Bridge and finishing at West Bank Bridge Park in Luling. Presenting sponsors for this year’s event included Shell Norco and Valero St. Charles Refinery.

Despite slightly windy conditions, the weather proved ideal for the event.

“After having to cancel the event last year due to dangerous weather, we are so thrilled runners were treated to such a beautiful day,” said Tamara Plattsmier, UWSC volunteer and event coordinator.

Each registered participant received a race medal and T-shirt, while top finishers were recognized with custom awards.

In the overall female division, Michelle Bravo of New Orleans took first place with a time of 21:03. Lisa Nelson of New Orleans placed second, followed by Reagan Tregre of Boutte in third place.

In the overall male division, Dominic Maley of Metairie earned first place with a time of 17:43. Brandon Yates of Ponchatoula finished second, and Bryson Thomas of Luling placed third.

Shell Norco was awarded the Team Participation Award for having the most participants from a team or company.

Following the race, participants enjoyed a lively after-party featuring music by Nashville South, photo booths, and food and beverages provided by race sponsors.

“Celebrating 30 years of the Bridge Run is not only a milestone for United Way of St. Charles, but an opportunity to bring our community together in a fun and meaningful way that promotes health and wellness for all,” said John Dias, executive director of United Way of St. Charles.
