Community Advisory Panel Visits EOC: Melissa Frederick
In my role as Campaign & Marketing Manager for United Way, I have the pleasure of being involved in various community-based organizations in St. Charles Parish.
One of those groups, the Norco Manufacturing Complex Community Advisory Panel (CAP), allows me to serve as a representative for my hometown of Norco as well as United Way.
Our group meets every other month and serves as a liaison between the community and NMC in order to bring community feedback, suggestions and questions directly to NMC representatives who not only listen but also follow up with answers or necessary action.
In addition to facilitating dialogue between NMC management and residents of the neighboring areas, each meeting includes a delicious dinner as well as a guest speaker.
Past meetings have featured presentations from local elected officials, health and wellness experts, and other valuable information we can then share with our fellow residents. In 2013 we even took a tour of the NMC facility.
Our last CAP meeting was especially interesting, as it was held at the St. Charles Parish Emergency Operations Center in Hahnville. We were treated to an incredibly informative presentation by EOC Director Ron Perry, and let’s just say, I was impressed! I now know for a fact that St. Charles Parish is truly one of the safest, best places to live and work--not that I was ever in doubt.
Thanks again to Mr. Perry and his staff for welcoming our group and for thoroughly answering all of our questions.
Also, thank you to NMC for planning informative meetings on such important topics. I am honored to serve in this unique role and give a little something back to the community that has given me so much.
