- UWSC Announces Success By 6 2010 Action Plan

United Way of St. Charles outlined its Success By 6® 2010 Action Plan that provides strategies to ensure children are ready to be successful when they enter kindergarten.

Success By 6® is a community impact program developed by United Way of St. Charles in 2007 that works to provide all children in St. Charles Parish with high quality, early learning experiences that prepare them to succeed in school and beyond.

An action plan is developed yearly by the SB6® committee, which is composed of local volunteers from various sectors within the St. Charles Parish community.  This plan addresses problems within the community that most hinder the well being of children before they enter kindergarten.

United Way of St. Charles plans to collaborate with several community partners to carry out the action plan that includes free training for childcare center staff on teaching children at all developmental levels, free childhood immunization brought into several St. Charles Parish communities, a health awareness fair targeted to expecting mothers and all young children and free parent education on the importance of being your child’s first teacher.

In addition, United Way of St. Charles SB6® program continues to offer its popular childhood literacy program, Imagination Library, which provides a free book every month for children age birth to five.  Once a child is registered for the Imagination Library, an age-appropriate book is mailed to the child at their home every month until the child turns five-years-old or moves out of St. Charles Parish.  United Way of St. Charles has already registered over 1200 children throughout the parish.  Parents can register their children at the United Way office, 13207 River Road in Luing, or on the Web at www.uwaysc.org.
